One thing I haven't done yet this year is write a review of last year and a projection of this year. Last year was a very trying year for me personally. Last January my family and I moved back to our hometown to be closer to our families. I was hired on at the local community hospital in the IT department and things seemed to be looking bright. We had our home up for sale and were staying in a friend's motor home out at our daughter and son-in-law's place. A few months went by and our home still had not sold and we started getting discouraged. Things began to turn; nothing seemed to be going right. When I accepted the position at the hospital, some things were not revealed to me about the job until I went through orientation like joining the union and a ninety plus day delay on receiving health benefits. Because my wife has been a diabetic since she was a teen-ager, healthcare was something that we needed desperately. On top of all of that, we had some disputes with some of our family members which added to the stress. During this time, most of our possessions were still back at our house including the station server. I tried my best to keep up with things via remoting into the server, but it was difficult at times with the internet connections that I was using at my daughters and other family members. What was strange is when we would go back home to check on our house and/or to sign documents for our realtor, we seemed happy and wished that we had not moved. I decided to check on jobs back home and the place that I had left had some job openings, so I applied. A few days later I received a call and had an interview set up. I was hired! We quickly realized that we were not supposed to have moved in the first place... nothing was going right. But as soon as we decided to move back home, everything seemed to fall into place. Well, the position that I was hired for required a Security Clearance with TSA so it would take a little time for me to start, so I kept working for the hospital. I had been told by the third party company that did the background checks that it would be about mid September before I was cleared so my wife and kids moved back home so that our boys could start school there and I would be there a few weeks later... A few weeks went by and no clearance. Then a few more weeks... then a few months. Finally, two weeks before Thanksgiving I got a call and put in my two week notice at the hospital. That time away from my family was very hard on both me and my wife as well as our kids. After I moved back home, it took a few months before I finally started feeling settled... it sucked! I truly thank God for making everything work and directing us back to where we should be... home. Anyway, during all this time I felt disconnected from the radio stations. I am so thankful for all of my bros that picked up the slack and kept us rockin'! Although, at times, I felt that I was at some of the lower points in my life (I think I was going through some depression), I had friends and family step up and kept me going. Thank you everyone for your love and friendship. I am truly blessed.
So... on to 2014! Already we have had a big change in the stations. Although it may or may not be too noticable to some, it's huge for us. One thing that is important to me is being legal. Running a radio station requires paying licensing and royalties to be legal. For years we used Loudcity. For a fee, they took care of all the reporting and distributing funds to the proper companies. In early February they announced that they were calling it quits and that put us in a quandry. Well, through a little research (Google) I found another reasonable company that did licensing and royalties. The good news is that it is about ten dollars less a month than LoudCity and we are actually more within our legal limits than we were with the other company due to the growth of both stations. The bad new is, our "Listen" page now has a new web address. I do not know if anyone noticed this, but our "Listen" page has a different URL than the rest of site. It was the same way with Loudcity, but it has been that way for years so most probably did not pay too much attention. Now it is hosted on the new Licensing company's server and has a new URL. The downside to this is that some people do not go to our website to see why we may be down or why they cannot get to our listen page so they quit listening. Oh well, we just keep on rockin'! (Whispers) "Build it and they will come". lol...
Some things to look forward to in 2014...
My good friend Dave (BigGuy48220) has been working very hard with me to add bios and lyrics for each band and album. We hope to have both stations done some time this year.
Improved playlist rotation. I just finished Dead to Self and am currently working on Fuel. Hope to be done by the end of April.
New shows. Top Off Tuesdays on Fuel. This is a double shot show which will play two song in a row from the same artist every hour, all day long every Tuesday. We also will start "Body Bags" on Dead to Self radio. This is a half hour show of tributes... bands playing other band's tunes. I hope to have that going by the end of March.
Nathaniel and I have some great ideas to implement on the websites, so hopefully we can find some time in our busy lives to get that going.
Well thanks everyone for reading my rants and please continue to keep my family and I in your prayers as we will yours as well... God Bless.
