Reviews For "Dangerously Close"

They haven't lost a thing.

One of my all-time favorite bands, Bloodgood, released a new album in late 2013 entitled "Dangerously Close" and I am going to attempt to review it. Bloodgood was the first Christian metal band that I have seen live. They opened up for Stryper on their "Soldiers Under God's Command" tour in Seattle so they hold a place in my heart personally. Plus, I have talked with and interviewed Michael Bloodgood and Les Carlson and I have chatted with Paul Jackson several times... I will try not to be too biased. Okay, here we go... First off, this is the first studio album recorded by the band in over twenty years! I have to say that it has been nice seeing some of my classic favorites coming back together and showing that good rock truly never dies. Let's get into the album now. "Lamb Of God" starts the album off smokin' hot! I was blessed enough to have seen the video release when it first came out on YouTube and it just intensified my anticipation for the full release. The band sounds tight as ever and with the addition to Stryper's Oz Fox on guitars, this album rocks all the more. "Run Away" is a mid-tempo rocker; very catchy. "Child On Earth" is a slower paced tune featuring an almost mid-eastern flavour at times. Very good song. "I Will" is another slow, almost balladic, song full of catchy hooks and great harmonies. "Bread Alone" starts of with a double bass pedal punch. This song rocks! "Pray" is another mid-tempo rocker. So far... no sleepers! Things slow down a bit on the song, "I Can Hold On" but not bad... sounds a tiny bit bluesy too. "Run The Race" is a cool rockin' song with hook galore! "Father Father" is a total ballad done Bloodgood style... full of heart and passion. "Man In The Middle" was actually released as a demo on the Metal Missionaries 25th Anniversary Edition CD. It's a great mid-rocker and was the beginning of all of the excitement for a new release which we have now! "Crush Me" is an acoustic ballad. Again, done in true Bloodgood style. "In The Trenches" is a low tuned pounding rocker. This is one of my favorite tracks. "The Word" ends the album in the same fashion as it began... hard, driving and in your face. Overall, probably one of the best albums of 2013! Great band, great album...
