Killer Thrash And Doom.. or Doom And Thrash!
by tombie on 8/2/2017

This is the second release by the doom metal/thrash metal band, Adorned Graves. I was beyond excited when Cailen (vocalist) sent me the album to review. I loved their debut album and have been following his updates on the Christian Metal Forum. Well, it is finally here and filling my earholes with sweet doomish thrashish nuggets of utter delight. The album has 11 songs ranging from 28 seconds to over 9 minutes. The album cover is dark with what looks like the open mouth of Jaws himself, minus the missing teeth and flesh from the explosion that killed him.
Well, lets get into what is burned into the disc... the music!
The album starts off with a song called "Out Of The Deep". The song starts off with beautiful atmospheric strings and synths. It definitely has a very doomy feel to it. I love the low end vocals and harmonies, it sounds haunting. Nearly 4 minutes into the song and the drums, bass and guitars kick in. It almost reminds me of some Veni Domine type stuff. I like it very much.
The next track is called "Opus One". Ahhhh, the soothing sounds of thrash has permeated my speakers, cranked to 11! This kind of almost reminds me of early Metallica. YEAH!!! Probably my favorite song.. no, it is my favorite song.
Primal Ocean is the next song. It starts off with some dialog in what sounds like ancient Hebrew. It sounds super doomy. I am already loving this album and I am only 3 songs deep. This is a slow tempoed song at first and then kicks in about half way through. Wait!! hold the bus! It just turned into a full frontal thrash assault. Oh yeah!
Next track, "Hydrophis Archaios". This is a thrash tune that starts off fast and furious. Clocking in at just under three minutes, this song jams!
"Psalm 88" is the next song and is also the longest at 9 minutes and 18 seconds. It is a slow doomy song and although it is long, it doesn't seem to get boring.
The next track is called "Invocation Of Liwja". It is basically an instrumental with a low end angelic choir in the background. Sounds pretty cool and is under 2 minutes.
Next song is nearly 9 minutes. It's called "Gorge Of Liwija". It starts off doomy and then moshes it up. The vocals are almost comparable to Vengeance Rising.
"S.alvation O.f The S.ea" is the next song and it is a minute and a half of mosh filled doom. Pretty cool song. Another of my favorites.
"Adorned Graves" is the next track. It was featured on the debut EP and is a nice doomy thrash tune.
The last song is called "Source Of Life". It is about 6 and a half minutes long. The first half is an acoustic guitar with atmospheric background music and dialog. A little over halfway through, it turns into a nice instrumental.
Overall, this is a great album. I love the different variations of doom and thrash. Great vocals, great guitar work and the rhythm section is excellent. The production is very well done. If you can get this, then do it. Not sure how the distribution is going to be but betting that some of the online Christian music stores will have it, like Roxx.
